Junior Internal Legal Counsel
Location:Sandton/Cape Town

Role Overview

TD Markets is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Internal Legal Counsel to join our Legal & Compliance team. The successful candidate will support the business in a wide range of legal, contractual, compliance, and administrative matters. This role offers hands-on exposure to commercial agreements, litigation support, corporate governance, and regulatory compliance, with the opportunity to develop specialist expertise in financial services, forex, and crypto.

Key Responsibilities

1. Specialised Legal Support

  • Stay up to date with relevant legislative and regulatory requirements, including FSCA, FIC, and other applicable laws.
  • Provide specialist legal support to internal stakeholders on assigned matters.
  • Assist in implementing legal risk management processes in line with company policy and industry best practice.
  • Compile training material and deliver guidance on legal topics such as AML, KYC, financial promotions, and cross-border trading.
  • Follow up on non-compliance issues and provide timely progress feedback on assigned projects.

2. Litigation Support

  • Assist in litigation matters, including research, document preparation, and coordination with external counsel.
  • Identify potential litigation and regulatory risks associated with business activities in forex and crypto markets.
  • Prepare briefing material and draft responses to support senior legal leadership.
  • Track and follow up on outstanding litigation or regulatory actions and report on progress.

3. Contract Drafting & Legal Correspondence

  • Assist in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial, vendor, and service agreements.
  • Develop and maintain scalable contracting processes, templates, and registers.
  • Prepare first drafts of agreements, contracts, and legal correspondence.
  • Monitor contract lifecycles to ensure timely execution and compliance with FSCA and other regulatory frameworks.

4. Confidential Document & Information Management

  • Ensure compliance with company document management policies and best practices.
  • Maintain legal policies, procedures, and confidential records.
  • Provide administrative and confidential support for legal meetings and documentation.
  • Monitor access to confidential documents and promptly report breaches.

5. Legal Compliance & Administrative Support

  • Support compliance initiatives with a focus on FSCA, FIC, AML, and global crypto/forex regulatory developments.
  • Conduct compliance checks on documentation for different deal structures.
  • Assist in the preparation of submissions and reports to regulators (FSCA, SARB, FIC).
  • Liaise with internal teams and external consultants/service providers to facilitate legal and compliance processes.
  • Report compliance issues and provide administrative support to legal leadership.

6. Regulatory Awareness (Forex & Crypto Focus)

  • Monitor and interpret FSCA regulatory requirements impacting forex and crypto businesses.
  • Assist with licensing, reporting, and compliance obligations under FSCA and other relevant bodies.
  • Support AML and KYC compliance in line with FIC requirements and global standards.
  • Stay informed on emerging regulations relating to crypto assets, digital asset trading, and cross-border forex services.
  • Provide guidance to business units on the regulatory impact of new products, marketing, and operational initiatives.
  • Assist in developing internal policies and controls to ensure adherence to FSCA and global financial conduct requirements.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • LLB degree (essential).
  • Admission as an attorney or candidate attorney experience advantageous.
  • Postgraduate qualification in financial services law, compliance, or fintech law (advantageous).

Experience

  • 1–2 years’ experience in a legal or compliance role, ideally in financial services, fintech, forex, or crypto.
  • Exposure to drafting contracts, FSCA compliance matters, or litigation support preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of South African corporate, commercial, and labour law.
  • Familiarity with FSCA, FIC, AML, POPIA, and crypto/forex regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent research, drafting, and analytical skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
  • Proactive, solutions-driven, and able to work independently as well as in a team.

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced and driven Key Account Specialist with a strong focus on merchant onboarding to join our team. In this role, you'll be responsible for managing the end-to-end onboarding process for merchants onto the TD Markets Exchange platform. Your goal will be to ensure a smooth, compliant, and high-conversion onboarding experience for key merchant accounts, while serving as a strategic advisor for crypto integration.

This is a client-facing role, ideal for someone who understands the unique needs of businesses entering the crypto space and knows how to build strong, trusted relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and streamline the onboarding process for new merchant accounts, from initial contact to full platform integration.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for key merchant partners during onboarding and beyond.
  • Collaborate with compliance, product, and technical teams to ensure merchants meet regulatory and KYC requirements.
  • Educate merchants on the benefits, processes, and tools available within the TD Markets Exchange ecosystem.
  • Identify and resolve onboarding bottlenecks or friction points to ensure a fast and effective go-live process.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of onboarding progress and merchant feedback.
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance to ensure merchant success and long-term engagement.
  • Track onboarding KPIs and prepare regular reports for leadership.

What We're Looking For

  • 2–4 years of experience in merchant onboarding, account management, or partner success—preferably in a crypto, fintech, or payments company.
  • Strong understanding of cryptocurrency exchanges, digital wallets, blockchain technology, and merchant use-cases in crypto.
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills.
  • Experience working across internal teams (sales, compliance, tech) to coordinate onboarding processes.
  • Detail-oriented with strong project management skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues and think strategically about merchant needs.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a startup or growth-stage crypto company.
  • Familiarity with onboarding tools, CRMs, and KYC platforms.
  • Multi-lingual capabilities are a plus.
